Jul 7/97: Gustafsen Lake - Urgent Appeal for Letters

URGENT APPEAL FOR LETTERS

July 7, 1997

On July 10, 11 and 22, the Ts'peten Defenders will be making submissions to Justice Bruce Josephson in respect to sentencing. The Defenders are seeking letters of solidarity and support for their stand against the criminal colonialism of Canada and the province of British Columbia.

The Supreme Court of BC has no lawful jurisdiction to try, convict or sentence indigenous nationals or their supporters on sovereign, unceded territories. Nevertheless, the Canadian and BC authorities continue their efforts to crush the anti-colonialist struggle by criminalizing traditionalist resistors and their allies. The unprecedented, harsh prison terms being sought by the Crown are simply persecution masquerading as prosecution. Your expressions of strength and sovereignty are urgently needed and deeply appreciated. They will be presented to the court and become part of the official record.

Letters should be emailed to sisis@envirolink.org, or faxed to 604-251-1986, marked attn: Bill Lightbown.

There will be a rally at 9:00 AM on July 10 in front of the Surrey Courthouse - 14340 57th Avenue.

Skytrain: to Surrey Central, then catch the White Rock Centre 321 bus to the corner of King George and Highway 10, walk east.

Driving: Follow Clark Drive south to Hwy 91, go east on Hwy 91 across the Alex Fraser bridge (Surrey/Delta) then east on Hwy 10 to Surrey Municipal Centre just past King George Hwy.
