Mar 25/98: FWC calls for resignation of BC Attorney-General

A CALL FOR THE RESIGNATION OF BC ATTORNEY GENERAL UJJAL DOSANJH

Ts'Peten Defence Committee - Free the Wolverine Campaign
Thursday, March 25, 1998

Attorney General Ujjal Dosanjh in his role as BC AG was responsible for giving the order for the deployment of four hundred RCMP, eight armored APC units from the Canadian Armed Forces and the firing of 77,000 rounds of internationally prohibited hollow-point bullets at eighteen people in the Ts'peten Camp at the Sacred Sundance site at Gustafsen Lake.

There has been a worldwide outcry and demand for a Public Inquiry into that incident. Those calling for this inquiry include former United States Attorney General Ramsey Clark, the Assembly of First Nations, Incomindios, Kola, Kwia, the Green Group of the European Parliament, the Canadian Alliance in Solidarity with the Native Peoples (CASNP), the Council of Canadians (Victoria), Moloqil Tinamit and other Mayan organizations in Guatemala, For Mother Earth Belgium, the Black Community Collective & Black Autonomy International - Canada, the Afrikan Frontline Network, Te Ropu Maori, Support for Native Sovereignty, the Tasmania Human Rights Group,Settlers In Support of Indigenous Sovereignty and many more organizations and individuals too numerous to mention here.

As AG and as the Minister responsible for Human Rights, Ujjal Dosanjh would be the minister responsible for convening a Public Inquiry into the events at Gustafsen Lake. Obviously he will never do so because of his own complicity in the affair. Dosanjh is in an obvious conflict of interest.

Because of this conflict of interest, the Ts'Peten Defence Committee and the Free the Wolverine Campaign are demanding that BC's Attorney-General Ujjal Dosanjh do the honorable thing and resign his position as the Attorney General of BC.

Justice must be done in British Columbia.
